Age of Managing The Content
Marketing Strategy Guide
by Richard Crawley
Ever since the dot com era has seen a boom, HTML has been an integral part of producing readable formats to web page viewers. I was a good programmer when I was young, loved to write for our favorite Visual basic and Java… but then while the concept of ecommerce started I was dumbstruck to find what Internet could do. It was, a new form of media, entertainment and advertisements.
As and as sites grew, so grew the competition. Sites grew enormous and contents were huge. Think of it as National Library without any management. Now people (probably the best minds in business) had to plan. Before planning a business must there be a plan…. about how easy a site can be managed.
Wouldn’t it be easy that there was some planner who would be smart enough as to provide the solution so that site contents can be updated easily… even by someone who doesn’t know a damn about scripts!! Think about it; less manpower, less time, compliant to laid down standards.
Till now my mom and dad doesn’t really know what I try to do. Well I love it, planning, managing a home virtually, because as far as websites are concerned somehow I visualize them as far as possible firstly as a viewer and then as an owner. This is the only trade secret I have had. Usability, easy maintenance, with some basic website knowledge.
Managing content is an integral part of web solutions. Today there are number of CMS to do it (though till date I have only used free ones, sometimes industry specific ones) but some of the big names are Interwoven TeamSite, Typo3, Vignette Content Management, DynaBase, Egrail. Some PHP-MySQL based content management systems have also captured web at hearts, by now the names on everyone’s lips are Joomla, Wordpress and Drupal.
So you know there’s still a way to be called manager without an MBA degree ;) if you are a net surfer and know a little about web branding and techniques.
